Spring Into Change.

It is a beautiful sunny morning as I begin to write this blog. As I stare out of the window I can't help but think that winter has long gone and spring has arrived. The chill in the air as I open a window soon lets me know that winter is indeed still here for a little longer.

Here in the Northern Hemisphere March 20th marks the first day of Spring, while in the southern Hemisphere Spring falls on September 22nd or 23rd, as we go into Autumn. With Spring comes new beginnings and a time of renewal.

Just think about how nature in Spring. New buds form on plants and trees, green shoots appear through soil, animals immerge from hibernation, birds are busy building nests and hatching their young. After a period of recuperation in the winter months nature becomes a hive of activity, jumping into action with the arrival of Spring.

If Spring signifies a new beginning then maybe it is the right time to look at ditching old habits or making a new start. You may wish to change your mindset, change the way you think about yourself, increase your exercise, reduce anxiety or stress. Whatever change you want to make you can use Spring as a new beginning for you. With Spring comes longer days with more sunlight which increases motivation and positivity.

For many, making New Year Resolutions on January 1st doesn't work. While a new year seems a good time to make changes but it is in the middle of winter. We have shorter days, less sunlight and we often have horrible weather. We often have less motivation during the winter months than we do in Spring and Summer. Some find they are tired from the holiday season and, for many, January can be an anti-climax after celebrations such as Bonfire Night, Halloween and Christmas. Is it any wonder that many good intentions fall by the wayside before the month is out? Surely it makes more sense to make changes in the Spring when you are more likely to succeed.

What old habits are you going to ditch this spring? What new beginnings are you going to make?
